Wychavon LibDems Launch Election Campaign
Wychavon Liberal Democrats today launched their local election campaign by highlighting the real and positive change the party is making in local communities across the country.
Liberal Democrat Councils are putting into place practical measures to cut crime and tackle the issue of climate change while giving power back to local communities. Liberal Democrat Liverpool has slashed domestic burglary by 24% and Liberal Democrat Newcastle has cut violent crime by 12%.
Liberal Democrat led South Shropshire has pioneered a benchmark affordable housing policy that actually works and is the most successful in the country.
Launching the campaign in Wychavon, Group Leader Margaret Rowley said
“Here in Wychavon we have drawn up a manifesto outlining policies that put people first, aiming to make our local communities greener, cleaner and safer.
“We aim to boost recycling and help the Council and the community reduce their carbon footprint. Wychavon was second from bottom in Worcestershire for recycling performance in 2005 – 2006. We would extend the collection of recyclables to all residents and aim to allow a much wider range of items to be recycled. Already, our proposal for pilot community composting schemes has been accepted by the Council.
“With a housing waiting list of over 4500, it will be a priority to make more affordable local homes available to local people. Wychavon is one of the most expensive places to buy a house, relative to income, in the West Midlands.”
Thirty four Liberal Democrat candidates are standing for election in Wychavon on May 3 rd.
