LIBERAL DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES FOR WYCHAVON BADSEY
- Sonya Ealey Sonya Ealey has lived in the area for 36 years, 33
of them in Badsey with husband Michael and 5 children.
She was in the antiques business for 21 years. Sonya has represented Badsey and Aldington on Wychavon
District Council since 1996. She
is also a member of the Local Transport Forum and a governor of Badsey
First School. She has
actively campaigned to improve road safety and reduce the problems
caused by HGVs in the area. Currently
her main project is to have a pedestrian crossing installed on
Bretforton Road as part of the ‘safe routes to school’ scheme. BOWBROOK - Margaret Rowley
Margaret has been a Wychavon Councillor for the last 8 years. She was chairman of the Environment Committee from 1996 until 1999 when she become Leader of the Opposition. She is also Chairman of Droitwich Canals Trust. She is concerned that Wychavon has become more out of touch with the people it serves.

- Carolyn Harford DODDERHILL - Derek Prior
He instigated the revival of a Youth Club in Wychbold for the 8 – 15 year age group which resulted in a reduction of vandalism in the village and during his Chairmanship the success of this Club was recognised when it was presented with the Shell Award for Community Ventures. A strong believer in the welfare of the younger residents of the community, he endeavours to assist and support their ideas. Derek says "It’s imperative that councils should pay heed to the youth of our communities as they represent all of our tomorrows." Derek is also the Parish
Council’s representative on the Droitwich Police Community
Consultative Group (PCCG), offering a voice on village policing.
Since 1991 planning issues relating
to the Dodderhill Ward have been one of his major concerns. In 1993 he
led the residents campaign against excessive development in Wychbold
itself. Derek will continue to support the wishes of the local
residents on future development DROITWICH CENTRAL - Graham Gopsill
Graham was Mayor of Droitwich Spa for the year 97/98 during which he
instigated the saltworkers statue and got the first purpose built
skateboard park up and running. He has not been a member of any council
for the last four years, but is now so angry with the controlling
Tories ignoring public opinion (closing the Lido, Waitrose,
closing the skateboard park, etc) that he now again speaking up for the
people of Droitwich Spa.
DROITWiCH
SOUTH WEST - Pam Jackson-Smith
Diabetics in Droitwich Spa who are finding it impossible at present to safely and legally rid themselves of their Sharps Boxes containing hazardous clinical waste. I have taken this on board and my campaign has now reached Westminster.
DROITWICH SOUTH WEST - Wendy J Carter
Wendy has lived and worked as a physiotherapist in the Droitwich area for the past 25 years. She is married to a doctor and has 4 sons, the youngest leaving school this summer. She is a member of Droitwich Tennis Club, the Worcester Festival Choral Society, and an active parishioner at St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s churches. She also enjoys walking, cinema and theatre. She would like to improve local amenities which are currently much reduced compared with 20 years ago e.g. the loss of the Lido, reduced bus services, no cinema or hospital, insufficient provision of schools, but with a rapidly expanding resident population.
EVESHAM SOUTH
- Diana Brown
Di Brown has lived in the Evesham area since 1990. She supports her husband and one of their 2 sons in their local horticultural business. She has also followed a career in education, having taught in further education before becoming a manager in higher education. She is currently a co-opted member of Pershore College and was a leader of Bengeworth Guides between 1990 and 1995. She represented Evesham South on Wychavon District Council between 1995 and 1999 when she was instrumental in developing the adventure playground and the Four Pools Community Centre. She is keen to develop facilities for young people, and is concerned about road safety.
FLADBURY
- Tom McDonald Tom McDonald has lived in Fladbury for over six years and is the Parish Council Chairman of nearby Hill and Moor. Tom is a recently retired Chartered Engineer with a track record of involvement in local issues. Tom’s commitment to the countryside and a greener and more prosperous future for farming is recognised by his recent appointment as Chairman of the Wychavon Group of the Council for Protection of Rural England (CPRE). He was also an active member of the PACT group which has recently won the argument against building an asylum centre at Throckmorton. He intends to bring to the ward the energy, experience and drive that has categorised his community service.
Steve Martin has lived just outside Evesham for nearly 20 years and is married with 3 grown-up children. He runs his own business as an environmental consultant and holds a professorship at University College, Worcester. He was a parish councillor and is a governor of the Pershore Group of Colleges. He is seriously concerned about reductions in local services, poor road maintenance and speeding traffic. He would like to see more speed cameras and better police enforcement. He is delighted to see that the doorstep collection of recyclable waste, first piloted when the Liberal Democrats ran Wychavon District Council, is now available almost everywhere. He has taken part in a number of campaigns to improve facilities for the disabled.
HONEYBOURNE & PEBWORTH
- Tom Bean Tom Bean is a retired farmer living in Ullington. He is married to Jean, a nursing sister and they have 4 grown up children. He has served as Councillor for Honeybourne and Pebworth since 1995 and Worcestershire County Councillor since 1997. He has a particular interest in education serving as a governor of Blackminster Middle School and Evesham High School. He is also a member of the Hereford & Worcester Combined Fire Authority, the Cross Boundaries Issues Group (dealing with roads and cross county planning problems), the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Vale Volunteer Centre Committee and the Wychavon Health Scrutiny Team. - Martin Davey Martin Davey has lived in Church Lench for 25 years. He is a self-employed gardener/grower which gives him a wide circle of contacts, keeping him in touch with local feelings. He has a strong interest in the growth of farmers’ markets selling local produce at a fair price. He feels strongly about the building of more affordable starter homes to support rural businesses. Other concerns include the state of roads in the villages and excessive speed. Martin has been a parish councillor for the past 10 years and is currently deputy chairman of Church Lench PC. INKBERROW

- John Payne John Payne has represented Evesham Hampton on
Wychavon and Evesham Town Council for the last 12 years.
A former Mayor of Evesham, he has also been Chairman of
Wychavon’s Planning Committee and Chairman of the Council. He is a member of the Local Government Association Planning
Committee which representas all local authorities nationally.
He continues to serve on Evesham Town Council and is
of the Historic Buildings Trust
