LEADING LIB DEM MP SPEAKS AT LOCAL PERTY DINNER
Chris Huhne MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, gave an inspiring speech to local party members at the Mid-Worcestershire Liberal Democrats annual dinner held at Vale Golf and Country Club in Bishampton last Saturday.
Mr Huhne, who was runner-up in the Party’s Leadership contest earlier this year spoke about the Party’s plans for halting climate change. He said that only the Liberal Democrats, as a united team, could act to reverse the decline in green taxes. Labour’s team was not united. Gordon Brown had cut taxes on polluters by 20% and put up taxes on income.
“As for David Cameron, he has made all the right noises but none of the right choices. For all his talk the Conservatives have not come up with a single specific policy to curb climate change, just talk, waffle and words. Where are your real plans, David Cameron? Stop opposing. Start proposing.”
Cllr Margaret Rowley, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Wychavon District Council said “Chris has led the green tax switch within the party, cutting taxes like income tax but raising taxes on environmentally damaging behaviour. The Liberal Democrats are the only major party to put forward effective proposals for halting climate change.”
At their recent Party Conference, the Liberal Democrats overwhelmingly supported the “Green Tax Switch’ which would be the biggest overhaul to British tax policy in modern times. The 'Green Switch', shifts taxes from positive things |
