LIZ LYNNE MEP PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR LIDO
Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne visited the Lido Park on Friday to meet representatives of the SALT campaign by the disused Lido.
Ms Lynne had been invited by Margaret Rowley, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Mid-Worcestershire and County Council candidates Janet Clarke and Wendy Carter to lend support to the campaign to save the Lido.
Ms Lynne was impressed by the unique salt water Lido, and told the SALT supporters “ Restoring the Lido would be a boost for tourism in Droitwich Spa. It would again attract visitors from across the region. Open air Lidos are popular and successful elsewhere in Europe and there is no reason why this should not be the case in Droitwich Spa. The health giving reputation of the natural brine water is an added attraction. ”
Ms Lynne suggested that funding might be available from the EU if SALT could join with a partner in another country in a similar bid .
John Cox, Secretary of SALT said “ Of course SALT are absolutely non-party political but we do very much welcome the interest our campaign is attracting from all parties during this election. Margaret Rowley and her fellow Liberal Democrat colleagues on both the local and district councils have supported the reopening of Droitwich
Spa Lido right from before the beginning of SALT's own campaign. It was a
pleasure today to meet with our Euro-MP Liz Lynne and we had a very
constructive discussion regarding how the issue of the future of the lido
might be addressed from a European angle. SALT very much thank Liz for being
kind enough to come to Droitwich Spa Lido, see the site for herself and to
talk with us."
